Yesterday few of my friends were discussing the latest hit Marathi movie, Sairaat! The discussion was all about whether we should take our kids to this movie or not? I can understand the concern and care of the parents have for their kids. They have full rights to decide what's good and what's bad for their children to watch! No denying! But the real question was why this movie is singled out saying this movie is not fit for the kids!
The most talked about point was that this movie is full of love and lust of adolescent boy and girl. By showing adolescence love story what the director want to show? How can we answer some disturbing queries our kids might ask about their love? This is sheer down gradation of our high culture!
All these queries are raised by reading the whatsapp and FB posts! Most of the people who have these queries have not watched the movie.
This is not the first movie to show love of college goers and surely won't be the last! There is a mention of word 'kiss' a couple of times but this doesn't make the film awkward to watch with family! And apart from last scene there is not at all a free flow of blood in the whole movie! Most of the Bollywood and Tollywood movies have much more blood and skin show! And I mean MUCH more!
So where the 'un-watchable with kids' tag came for this movie? A few whatsapp and Facebook posts have done the trick for this movie? But why the hell, somebody will write against a movie of which he/she has nothing to do?
'Nothing to do', really? Guys, if someone holds a mirror in front of your ugly face, it is obvious that we get offended and angry! We don't like to face the reality and surly not when that ugliness involves us!
Most of these posts are from so called 'उच्च जात'. And I'm really very sorry to say they are from my caste. This caste has ruled sugar lobby, education lobby and most importantly Maharashtra's political space is very much occupied by this caste. They are virtually the kings of every aspect of Maharashtra! They have money, power and social 'respect'. They are George Orwell's 'more equals than equal'! So how can you show their wrong doings publicly! They have given fitting replies in Sonai, Javkheda and Khairlanji and even far away in Kolkata! And even after that you dare to show this on a big screen. Not acceptable, boss, not at all acceptable!
'But obviously, you can not kill a director for his movie, right? Then what to do? So come on let's kill his movie!' These WA or FB posts are originated from this mentality! They know the power of 'social boycott'! By these posts they are trying to do the same. Spread a negativity! By this way, they'll sure shape the minds of few people against the movie and change the direction of the discussion to 'how movies can ruin our kids' minds' instead of the message the movie is trying to coney!
Friends, I'm not at all doing PR job for the movie here, but seriously thought of the mentality of these 'high castes'! Believe me guys, this movie is not at all problematic for the kids to watch. My son and most of the kids in the movie hall present that day thoroughly enjoyed the movie. At least the first half before the intervals! Anyways, second part is a heavy dose for the kids! But in the end while showing credentials, my son asked me "आर्ची नि परश्याला का मारलं (why were Archi and Parshya killed)?' And I guess the answer to this question is what really going to shape our future generation!
